Take eight aspiring authors, one New York publishing house and one magazine with a focus on romance, mix them together and throw in a prize – a publishing contract – and what do you have?
American Title is the reality contest for writers, run by Romantic Times Magazine and Dorchester Publishing of New York. The contest takes place over five rounds, one each month, from November 2008 until March 2009, when Romantic Times prints extracts from each of the finalists' books, on its website and in the magazine. Like all reality contests, three judges get to comment, but it's the voting public that have the power, because in each round they get to vote for their favorite and the lowest scoring entry drops out. This year's competition, American Title V, began in November. Now two rounds down, voters have made their choice of favorite first line and favorite description of hero and heroine. Next up – from January 19 to February 1 voters can take their pick from six story summaries.
The books on offer cover every romance genre from time travel to fantasy to romantic suspense. To learn more about the finalists and their books you can join them on their blog
